In the ancient world, a well was only as good as its connection to the spring beneath it.
If the flow stopped, the well didn’t just become useless—it became dangerous. Stagnant
water may look fine on the surface, but it quietly harms those who drink it.

Jesus understood this when He prayed in John 17. On the night before the cross, He
didn’t ask the Father to remove His disciples from the world. He prayed that they would
be protected, sanctified, and filled with His joy.

Why joy?

Because a soul that stops drawing from Christ slowly dries out. Fear replaces faith.
Survival replaces trust. And eventually, the joy of the Lord is traded for exhaustion and
cynicism.

Isaiah reminds us, “With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.” Joy is not
the result of easy circumstances—it is the fruit of ongoing dependence.

Today, pause and ask yourself:
Am I still drawing from the Well, or am I trying to live off yesterday’s water?

Jesus invites you again—not to perform, not to prove, but to drink. And when you do,
life begins flowing outward once more.
