Soul Hygiene — Living Clean in a Contaminated World

Main Point: Soul Hygiene Is a Must If We Want to Be in Tune with God

 I. Jesus: The Caretaker of Our Soul

  1. (v.2) He Makes Me to Lie Down 
  2. (v.3) He Restores My Soul 
  3. (v.4)  Even in the Valley 

 

II. The Junk – What’s Polluting the Soul?

  1. Pride (Genesis 11:1-9)
  2. Distraction
  3. Self-Righteousness

 

III. Justification: The Cleansing Process

  1. Confession – Admit what’s dirty
  2. Repentance – Turn from what’s infecting you
  3. Solitude – Let God speak
  4. Scripture – Let the Word wash you
  5. Community – Confess your sins to one another

 

IV. The Joy: A Clean Soul that Clings to Jesus

  1. David ends Psalm 23 with this promise:
    1. “Surely Your goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

 

V. Gospel Invitation – Clean Hearts, New Life

You can’t cleanse yourself internally.
But Jesus can.

  • He took your sin and shame.
  • He traded His righteousness for your filth.
  • He died not to make you better—but to make you clean.
